The holiday season was just around the corner, and I needed to get a lot of gifts. I wanted to do something different this year. I always gave people cards with money in it or gift cards for the holidays, since there was so many different people to shop for. This year I decided to make my gifts a little more unique and make Christmas Hampers.

I saw an idea online for Christmas Hampers. I would have never thought of giving hampers to people for Christmas, but there are so many things you can do with these to make them special xmas Hampers. It was actually a simple task, all I needed to do was go to a dollar store and pick up some hampers, tissue paper, colored silicon, and bows.

The next step I had to take was getting the items to put inside the xmas Hampers. I decided that I would give each of the xmas Hampers to a whole family, instead of getting individual gifts for each person. I bought little things such as chocolates, shampoo, tooth paste, cleaning supplies, and so forth.

Now I was able to put these hampers together to make unique gifts. I lined all the hampers on my floor and place tissue paper in them nicely. I then began to fill and arrange all of the goodies in the hampers. My end result was a bunch of hampers for the holidays. I know this is one homemade gift everyone will enjoy.

When I think of the word “hamper”, I have visions of the kind that my mother made me put my laundry in each night because she “didn’t raise me in a barn!” Later when I entered college and took my hamper with me so I could lug my dirty laundry down to the coin operated machines and wash my clothes with the thousands of other kids on campus, I loathed the heavy thing! I never realized or appreciated how easy I had it when all I had to do was make certain my clothes made it into my bedroom hamper and as if by magic, mother made them all clean again. Upon reaching adulthood, I worked, married and had kids.

One holiday season, we decided to do a service project and finally decided on Christmas hampers. These hampers would be gender and age specific. We created ones for babies full of diapers, toys, rattles, blankets and sleepers.

Older childrens’ Christmas hampers would be filled with jeans, t-shirts, books, magazines, and gift cards. There are even Christmas hampers for senior citizens filled with slippers, blankets, gloves, and hats. The creation of these hampers was nice for those who learned the joy of sharing and helping and for those who so really needed help.

Of course my little tale has a good point that was provided by my oldest daughter. She announced that Xmas hampers would be vastly more popular as a name. I informed her we were not trying to be cool, just helpful. She still insisted Xmas hampers was such an improved name from the traditional “Christmas Hampers” name, and that she couldn’t believe how “lame” I was. In the end, her royal highness got her Xmas hampers name change. The little label maker I used to identify which of the hampers was for each age group or gender, didn’t have enough space across to spell out Christmas Hampers on the boxes, anyway. However, I could fit the word “Xmas Hampers”. I just remember a rose by any other name would smell as sweet!

Various caring neighborhoods create Christmas hampers for individuals who are less fortunate, who can’t find the money for spending on Xmas presents and special dinners for their family. These caring community volunteers work together to donate many magnificent things to put together the finest Xmas hampers.

These Christmas hampers are usually filled with non-perishable food items such as canned vegetables and meats, pastas, sauces, jellies and jams, instant dessert mixes, instant boxed dinners, cans of soup, and more. The reason that non-perishable food items are donated to the hampers is so that the families will not receive rotten food for Christmas. Also, this way, the families can conserve the food for as long as they like and eat it at any time. A delicious turkey is also typically packed with these fine hampers on the day they are delivered. This way, the families will have a turkey dinner for the holiday.

These hampers also include other items besides food that best suit the needs of each individual family. For instance, a family with two underemployed parents and 7 children of all ages, may also receive things particular to each age of the children. If they had teenage girls, they might receive donated magazines, girls clothing, and makeup. The younger children would have brand new toys that have been donated, and probably clothing as well. Babies would get baby toys, baby clothing, diapers, etc. The dad may receive a brand new pair of mittens, or a gift card. The mother will likely receive winter clothing or a small spa kit in the Xmas hampers.

As you can see, donating to your local Christmas hampers is a very caring gesture for those in dire needs of having a decent Christmas that many others take for granted. Donating to Xmas hampers will put you in a more festive spirit too.
